New Edinburgh

Ottawa Neighbourhood

New Edinburgh

A historic village along the Rideau River. Beechwood Avenue does the rest.

The Neighbourhood

New Edinburgh is the small heritage village pressed between the Rideau River, Sussex Drive, and Beechwood Avenue. The streets are short, the lots are modest, and the homes are some of Ottawa's oldest. Stanley Avenue runs through Stanley Park to the river, and Beechwood Avenue carries the daily life of the neighbourhood.

The housing is largely brick Victorian and Edwardian singles and doubles, with a handful of stone heritage properties and modern infill on the eastern edge. The Rockcliffe Park overlap on Mariposa and Crichton blurs into estate territory; the rest of the neighbourhood is a tighter, more village-scaled market.

Buyers come for the walking life. Bridgehead and Roost on Beechwood, the Saturday farmers' market at the corner of MacKay, dinner at Fraser Café. A short walk across the river puts you in Lowertown and the ByWard Market. A short drive along the parkway puts you downtown in eight minutes.
