The Glebe

Bank Street, the canal, Lansdowne. The neighbourhood Ottawa families do not leave.

The Neighbourhood

The Glebe sits between the Rideau Canal and Bronson, with Bank Street as its spine and Lansdowne Park as its anchor at the south end. Tree-lined streets, brick Edwardian singles, the slow rhythm of a real neighbourhood. The Glebe Centre community building is the social engine and Bank Street is the commercial one.

The market here is unusual in Ottawa because turnover is genuinely low. A lot of homes are second- or third-generation family ownership, and when a great property does come up, it usually attracts multiple offers. The strongest streets are First, Second, Third, and Fourth Avenues, plus the Patterson Creek streets like Clemow and Glebe.

Buyers tend to be families investing in twenty years of staying put. The Glebe Co-op nursery school, Mutchmor Public, then Glebe Collegiate is a well-worn path. The summer is festivals at Lansdowne, the fall is canal runs, the winter is skating from First Avenue to Dow's Lake.
